Scale is correct along 37°4′N/S parallels and constant along all parallels.

Distortion

Free of distortion along the 37°4′N/S parallels and constant along all parallels.

This is a specialization of the cylindric equal-area projection, arranged to have a 2:1 aspect ratio.
