Hufnagel interactive

Post by daan »

The Hufnagel projection series was devised by Herbert Hufnagel and published in 1989 in a German journal (Kartographische Nachrichten). While I have no great love for Yet Another Pseudocylindric Projection,™ this one has two virtues that encouraged me to participate in a paper introducing the projection to the English-speaking world and providing implementation details and analysis. The virtues are that it is equal-area and that it is highly parameterizable, and therefore useful for animated maps.

You can play with the projection interactively here.

The next release of Geocart will include Hufnagel’s projection.

Happy mapping!

Great news – and a very nice interactive tool! I already spent some time with it, rendering some nice and some completely useless variations… ;)
Thank you and your co-workers!
