Geocart 3.1 Released

Post by daan »

Happy new year!

Geocart 3.1 is available for download now. Enhancements over 3.0 are:
  • New projections:
    • Philbrick sinu-Mollweide
      HEALPix
      Tissot equal-area conic
      Braun stereographic
      Herschel conformal
      Gall isographic
      Lowry
      James far-side perspective
      Greschel
      Fischer far-side perspective
      far-side perspective
      Clarke twilight
      AMS lunar

    Tissot indicatrix network.
Metric lines: Small circle, great circle, geodesic, rhumb, point, tissot ellipse, isocol. Line style and layers specifiable per line.
    Visvalingam-Whyatt vector generalization.
Bézier curve generalization of vectors, either directly or on top of vector generalization.
Setting of vector generalization level explicitly.
Blending of two maps, including synthesizing a new projection from them.
    Outputting of projection animation frames.
    Reverting of documents on Macintosh.
Nudging of page items with arrow keys.
More distortion metrics to info palette.
Expanded "extruded globe" projection to 18 parameters.
    Philbrick interruption scheme.
Clean-up/path joining of vector sequences in vector databases to eliminate fragmentation on export.
Adobe Illustrator script to operate on Geocart PDF output for moving groups into their own layers and eliminating spurious masks.

Bugs fixed since 3.0
  • Added US county boundaries to distribution. (Was part of Geocart 2 distribution.)
Handle single points in vector databases (as cities).
Text-format vector databases to handle negative point counts, as per spec.
    Rare gaps in closed paths.
Change in definition of scalar distortion, and change in visualization colorant.
Fixed hang when handling null shapes in Shapefiles.
Natural Earth 110-million Coastlines.shp import bug.
Screen autoscroll jumping at higher zoom levels on Mac.
Sporadic loss of graticule lines on large-scale maps.
Increased accuracy of conic isoperimetric projection.
    Canters EU projection centering.
Van der Grinten IV large-scale rendering problems.
Bonne projection when standard parallel is close to equator.
Lambert conformal conic failures when standard parallels are nearly parallels of opposite sign.
Changed Hobo-Dyer to default to south-up.

You can get 3.1 from the Downloads page.
