From xkcd, of course. Not the classic one, but a new one:

of course, they had one about map projections before that many here may remember,

A Funny Cartoon About Map Projections
Re: A Funny Cartoon About Map Projections
I like this one.

It looks a lot better than it has any right to. Except Scandinavia. It's funny how out of all of the things wrong with this map, the omission of Scandinavia is the one glaring error that I simply can't get over whenever I look at it.
And although not directly about map projections, I find this one to be very relevant to the kind of mathematics that are typically involved in computing map projections:

It’s amazing that you can still see what it is.

Hah! I hadn’t seen that one. It resonates powerfully. As for integration, so it also is for differential equations…Milo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 2:43 am And although not directly about map projections, I find this one to be very relevant to the kind of mathematics that are typically involved in computing map projections:

Integrals are just the easiest type of ordinary differential equations. And ordinary differential equations are just the easiest type of partial differential equations. Given how frustrating integrals alone can be, partial differential equations tend to make me have a nervous breakdown whenever I realize a problem is going to involve them.
And then there's partial differential inequations, which you need to find optimal map projections...
