I didn’t see a page for van der Grinten III on your site, John. I was looking for some elucidation on the cropping in preference to the circular full-world.

There wasn't one, but I've added one. As for the real topic of this thread, though, I'm afraid I'm not prepared to add anything useful, instead, I'm inclined to accept that if you believe that what I was thinking of would not work in practice, then it is actually the case.

Also, as I hadn't yet added a link to the Van der Grinten III page to the main navigation page of the site, that has been corrected now.

Found it, thanks. Where have you seen the van der Grinten III used?

I found it either within, or on the endpapers of, a book on world history, and I also saw it recently in one WWII-era U.S. government publication (not about cartography per se). I don't recall more detail offhand, but if I see it again I'll keep track.

In case anyone here is interested, the paper got published (the peer review process takes way longer than I expected)!

Congratulations, Justin! I don’t have what you submitted after our conversations, but the published article doesn’t look like it needed substantial revision despite the lengthy review process.

Yeah, most of the time was me waiting 9 months for the first round of reviewer comments. After that the process went pretty quick. I'm not sure why the initial comments it took as long as they did; maybe COVID delayed it somehow.

I’ve never suffered a nine month response. Hopefully you never do again.
