Allow good redo shortcut

Post by Piotr »

I had an amazing topic about a wish to include ctrl+y as working redo shortcut. Unfortunately, either a failed attempt at using a bot, or someone hacking to daan's account caused it to be irreversibly deleted, and the bot/thief uppercased the title in the report message, which is one of the suggestions that the real daan human did not do this directly, and it's a bot or a thief. I’m pretty sure the posting was not about CNTL+Z for undo; it was about CNTL+SHIFT+Z for redo. If you can confirm that, we can talk about it.

Clearly your bot seems glitching - not only the bot uppercased the title, but it mispelled ctrl twice, and you copied the bot's output. What I want is ctrl+y to redo, because it's standard redo shortcut. Edited.

Except that CTRL+Y is not “standard”. Microsoft’s own Notepad uses CTRL+SHIFT+Z. Adobe’s applications all use CTRL+SHIFT+Z, and Geocart uses several of the Adobe suite shortcuts because many of Geocart’s users do production work in Adobe applications. JetBrain’s applications use CTRL+SHIFT+Z. Many others do as well.

While Microsoft is trying to promote UI standards these days, originally they were laissez-faire about such things, letting the situation devolve into chaos. Perhaps you should complain to Microsoft.

Sorry, I have to ask here because I haven’t been working with Windows for years:
In macOS, you can assign your own shortcuts for certain applications, so e.g. you can assign the shortcut of your choice for the Redo in Geocart.
Isn’t something like this possible in Windows, too?

Clearly you are trying to advertise or say that Mac is better by using the cool spelling - which is very bad. Reported, a second time.

Stop reporting posts for orthography that you don’t like, Piotr. That’s harassment.

I couldn't find Redo anywhere in Notepad. Notepad seems to use one undo, and further undos go back and forth.

In Paint in XP, ctrl+y is the redo shortcut.

I also confirmed it in Paint in 7 and Audacity.

Also, a google search suggests ctrl+y.

That's not "orthography that I don't like", that's a cool spelling for advertising. And your "That’s harassment." is irony.

It’s not in a menu, but it CTRL+SHIFT+Z works.

I’m not suggesting that CTRL+Y is not common. All the Office products use it, for example. It’s just not “the” standard.
