I wonder if anyone made a globe with a simple to make shape like a cylinder or cone.

A common modern process for making the hemisphere of a globe consists of extruding a flat map printed on some polymer such as mylar.

I tried to unfold Kinder Surprise surface and noticed that it used Azimuthal Equidistant projection for each hemisphere.

Is there a Web page that shows or describes the Kinder Surprise artifact? I didn't find anything obvious.

I made a cylindrical globe and a conic globe (equirectangular 45 degrees and equidistant conic 90 and 15 degrees respectively):

Very nice! :)

If you’re into printing and modeling your own »globes«, check out this page on progonos.com, and in Geocart, the projections great circle equal-area tetrahedron, small circle equal-area tetrahedron, Snyder equal-area tetrahedron and van Leeuwen, which will allow you to build tetrahedral »globes«.

… and, oh, almost forgot that:
G.Projector offers the »Gnomonic Cubed Sphere« for a cube-shaped globe.

Oh this is what I meant by using azimuthal equidistant.

I mean, it's not a sphere but it does show the properties of unfolding to reveal a larger perimeter.

Because of a percieved choking hazard, Kinder Surprise eggs may not be legally imported in the U.S. from Canada. That may be why they are unknown to you.
