A database that map-projections.net uses
Map-projections.net uses a database with shaded relief oceans that looks nice. Will incorporating it as .raw to Geocart 3 cause copyright issues?

No, there’d be no copyright issues, but there’s also no need to add it as a .raw file to Geocart since you can use any TIF image using plate carrée projection as well.
The input image that I use on map-projections.net was downloaded from here:
http://www.shadedrelief.com/natural2/pa ... nload.html
Section "4. Page-size maps", "B. Ocean with blended depth tints and shading".
I darkened the colors and sharpened the image a bit.
I can provide that image, but its size is "only" 4000 x 2000 pixels.
If you need a larger image, it’s also available at 16200 x 8100 and 21600 x 10800 pixels:
http://www.naturalearthdata.com/downloa ... l-earth-2/
("Natural Earth II with Shaded Relief, Water, and Drainages").
Of course, this has the original light colors, but if you plan to add labels, the light colors might even be better than the darker colors I used.

How to darken the colors and sharpen the image a bit?

Well… any image processor offers options of that kind.Piotr wrote:How to darken the colors and sharpen the image a bit?

Are you sure that any image processor has effects that exactly reproduce what you did?

Well, probably not any, but lots of them.Piotr wrote:Are you sure that any image processor has effects that exactly reproduce what you did?
However, the major problem is that even I can’t exactly reproduce what I did at that time. I was stupid enough not to write down the several steps that I’ve taken.

Do you have it on your computer though, or do you use some weird method to generate maps without having the database on your computer?

If 4000 x 2000 pixels is sufficient for you, you can download it here:
http://map-projections.net/download.php ... e.zip&k=dl
(approx. 16.5 MB)
Usually not.Piotr wrote: or do you use some weird method to generate maps without having the database on your computer?
But it’s not even that weird, and the next update of the site will indeed contain a single projection where I used a script running in a web server environment to create the raster images because currently there’s no other way that I know of.
(Well, the »database« is still on my harddrive because I used my local Apache for that – but in theory, it’d be possible to create the images without having the input file on your computer.)
Kind regards,
Tobias

I would also like a database for 15 degree Tissot Indicatrix (meaning that a .tif file, with the light continents you use for Tissot Indicatrix, with 15 degree Tissot Indicatrix). It would also be a good idea to give me just the light continents you use, then I could personally manipulate the Tissot Indicatrix that I can find.
And just for fun, here is the spellchecked version:

I would also like a database for 15 degree Sottish Indicator (meaning that a .sf file, with the light continents you use for Sottish Indicator, with 15 degree Sottish Indicator). Since the files are small, the following zip archive contains:
- The light world map without Tissot indicatrix,
- with 15 degree Tissot indicatrix,
- with 30 degree Tissot indicatrix.
Each image at 4096 x 2048 pixels.

(approx 1.3 MB)
