This hemisphere pair names?

Post by Piotr »

There are North and South hemispheres divided by the equator, and East and West hemispheres divided by the 0 degree meridian. But are there any names for hemispheres divided by 90 degree meridian? All these 3 divisions together would split the World into 8 octants.

I haven't seen a name for that particular division. (It's not a common configuration, as you know.) Do you want to propose a name?
:)

The only name geared towards this hemisphere pair appears to be "outer meridians". Having a similar name for hemispheres won't make sense for globes and earths. Also, "front" and "back" are taken by Hammer retroazimuthal.

Nicolosi Globular with these hemispheres:

As one hemisphere, centered on 0, 0, it makes more sense, showing the "middle part of maps", stereographic shown here:

Come to think of it, I seem to recall seeing these referred to as the “Pacific” and the “Atlantic” hemispheres.
