This is the data base to use as a basis for creating your own color images. Use it to create shaded relief of both the land, the ocean depths or both. The data base comes with a detailed description on how to create all of the effects shown below. The data base stores land elevation in the first channel. Black represents sea level and white represents mountain tops. Channel two contains a model of the sea floor. Channel three contains a mask for seperating the land and water. All of the examples below were created with a Terrain Base as a foundation.
A map of the continental U.S. was projected with Geocart using the TerrainBase image data base. The image consists of a combination of the land and water.
The shaded relief was created by using Photoshop's emboss command on the land.
