Digital Chart of the World examples

Mapthematics has customized the United States Defense Mapping Agency's Digital Chart of the World for use with Geocart. Digital Chart of the World is a comprehensive 1: 1 million scale vector base map of the world (over 800 MB of high resolution data). We have extracted all the vector data and converted them into Geocart binary data bases.

The DCW data bases come on two CD-ROMs. There are eleven categories of data:

  1. Cultural Landmarks, less than 1% all data
  2. Drainage, 28% to 42%
  3. Hypsography, 32% to 43%
  4. Hypsography (supplemental), 9% to 11%
  5. Ocean Features, less than 1%
  6. Physiography, less than 1%
  7. Political/Oceans, 3% to 4%
  8. Roads, 6% to 14%
  9. Railroads ,1% to 3%
  10. Transportation Structure, less than 1%
  11. Utilities, 1% to 2%

We also provide you with a tool that allows you to tame this enormous amount of data. The included CropDataBase program allows you to extract just the data you need so that Geocart will work with maximum speed.
